All the stuff we use in our day-to-day life has embodied energy: the energy and emission that went into making the item. That’s true of stuff we throw away too, like take-out cups and food packaging. When we cut down on disposable stuff that we don’t really need in the first place, we can lower our personal carbon footprint.
Today, try to identify a single-use item you could avoid. Maybe it’s bringing a reusable bag to the store. Maybe take a reusable cup or bottle with you, instead of buying a drink in a disposable cup or plastic bottle. Skip a single use item today, and see if you can make it a habit in the future.
